Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday inaugurated 100-seater multipurpose cinema halls in Baramulla and Handwara, in a move to revive the cinema culture in Jammu and Kashmir.
The cinema halls, which have been set up under a public-private partnership, will also house a cafe, VR, conference and seminar facilities for youth.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Sinha said that the cinema halls are a reflection of the growing aspiration of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He also congratulated the district administrations of Baramulla and Handwara for their efforts in making the project a reality.
Sinha said that the government is committed to providing recreational facilities to the people and reviving the vibrant cinema culture in the region. He also announced that the government plans to set up a cinema hall in every district of Jammu and Kashmir.
In addition to the cinema halls, Sinha also inaugurated several other development projects in Baramulla, including a nine-roomed three-storey building at HSS Kunzer, an auditorium at HSS Sultanpora, and water supply schemes under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
He also paid tributes to Maqbool Sherwani, a freedom fighter and social reformer who was born in Baramulla.
Sinha’s visit to Baramulla comes at a time when the region is witnessing a surge in violence. However, the Lt Governor expressed confidence that the security forces will be able to maintain peace and stability in the region.
He also called upon the people of Baramulla to come together and work for the development of the district.
The inauguration of the cinema halls was welcomed by the people of Baramulla and Handwara. They said that the halls will provide a much-needed recreational outlet for the youth and help to revive the cinema culture in the region.
