Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced that a committee has been established to address the regularization of daily wage workers in Jammu and Kashmir. The committee, led by the Chief Secretary, will submit its recommendations to the government within six months.
In response to inquiries in the Assembly, Abdullah also highlighted the government’s commitment to accelerating the filling of vacant government positions. He stated that over the past two years, more than 15,000 vacancies have been filled. Specifically:
- 9,351 out of 13,466 non-gazetted vacancies referred to the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) have been filled.
- 2,175 out of 2,390 gazetted vacancies referred to the Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) have been filled.
Ongoing efforts include:
- Review of 10,757 multi-task service (MTS) vacancies by the finance department, with plans for referral to recruiting agencies.
- Immediate referral of 6,000 additional vacancies.
To streamline recruitment, the government has:
- Abolished interviews for posts up to Pay Level 6, including junior engineers and naib tehsildars.
- Revised recruitment regulations to implement computer-based written exams and consolidate exams for multiple posts.
The JKPSC and JKSSB have been instructed to adhere to target-based recruitment timelines. The government aims to fill 1,502 gazetted and 5,751 non-gazetted vacancies by year’s end, including 150 junior engineer positions.
Recruitment in higher education is also progressing, with:
- Processing of 150 gazetted vacancies for assistant professors, librarians, and physical training instructors.
- 476 out of 840 previously referred vacancies filled, with the remaining 364 in process.
- 116 non-gazetted vacancies sent for financial clearance.
Abdullah reiterated the government’s dedication to efficient, transparent, and fair recruitment to increase employment opportunities in Jammu and Kashmir.
