Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo, visited Kadipora, Anantnag, to offer support to families whose homes were destroyed in a recent fire. Accompanied by MLAs Peerzada Mohd Sayeed, Abdul Majeed Larmi, Altaf Ahmad Wani, and District Commissioner Syed Fakhruddin Hamid, she assessed the damage and ongoing relief efforts.
Minister Itoo personally interacted with the victims, assuring them of the government’s full support. “On Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s instructions, we are here to express solidarity and provide all possible assistance,” she stated. She emphasized the Chief Minister’s direct involvement in monitoring the relief operations.
The Minister urged the District Commissioner to expedite rehabilitation, focusing on immediate needs such as temporary shelter, food, and financial aid. She also called for a thorough damage assessment to ensure swift compensation. Addressing concerns about future fire prevention, she pledged to explore decongestion options for the area and enhance fire safety infrastructure.
During a meeting with district administration officers, Minister Itoo stressed the importance of providing temporary shelter and essential supplies, including bedding and timber, to the affected families. She also directed the health department to maintain a medical team and adequate medicine stock. Furthermore, she instructed the administration to immediately assess losses and provide appropriate assistance.
The devastating fire in Kadipora’s densely populated old town gutted over 30 houses, impacting approximately 45 families.
