Jammu Police successfully thwarted a bovine smuggling attempt and recovered a stolen vehicle in the Jourian area during the early hours of June 1st, 2025, as part of Operation Kamdhenu.
The incident unfolded when SI Sanjeet Singh, in charge of PP Jourian, and his team set up a special checkpoint at Chak Kirpalpur (Naiwala). They attempted to stop a Mahindra Scorpio with registration number JK02AA-0010, which was traveling from Khour/Jourian towards Akhnoor/Jammu.
The driver, however, disregarded the signal and sped past the checkpoint. The naka team quickly pursued the vehicle, finding it abandoned about 200 meters ahead. The occupants had fled under the cover of darkness.
Upon inspection, officers discovered four bovine animals—three cows and one calf—tied inside the vehicle in a cruel and inhumane manner, lacking food and water. This indicated an illegal bovine smuggling operation, as no valid transportation permits were found.
A case has been registered under Sections 223 (BNS) and 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. The vehicle has been seized, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the culprits.
Further investigation revealed that the Mahindra Scorpio used in the crime had been reported stolen from the jurisdiction of Police Station Gangyal. This successful operation not only prevented illegal bovine smuggling but also led to the recovery of a stolen vehicle.
