In May, the Jammu Railway Division collected ₹21.93 lakh in fines from over 4,000 passengers caught traveling without valid tickets.
A significant portion of these fines came from the Pathankot headquarters, where staff apprehended 2,094 passengers and collected ₹9.77 lakh. The Jammu headquarters also saw substantial activity, fining 975 passengers and collecting ₹6.37 lakh. Additionally, 346 passengers were fined ₹3.69 lakh by staff at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra station. In the Kashmir Valley, 752 passengers were charged, resulting in ₹2.1 lakh in fines.
Uchit Singhal, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, Jammu Division, emphasized the importance of traveling with a valid ticket, reminding passengers that doing so avoids inconvenience and that ticketless or irregular travel is a punishable offense.
